Volunteer Spotlight

At Catholic Charities Diocese of Kalamazoo, Volunteers breathe life into our Mission, "We are God's hands providing housing, health, and hope to His children."

At CCDOK, we could not do the work we do without their support. Whether it is behind the scenes or having direct contact with someone in need, our volunteers send a powerful message to the person being helped:

You are worthy, You are valuable, and God loves You.

We are proud to introduce some of the dedicated members of the CCDOK Volunteer Team:

Meet Karla Kaczmarski

My husband and I have three wonderful boys who I have enjoyed staying home to help raise.  I enjoyed volunteering at their elementary school in various capacities and kept busy volunteering and supporting their extra curricular activities.  My volunteer time decreased over the past couple of years as the boys have gotten older.

As part of my Lenten obligations a few years ago, I decided to get back into volunteering.  I found the Bread of Life Ministry through Catholic Charities and enjoy volunteering every Tuesday giving back to the community.

I have been blessed in many ways, and it makes me feel good to know that I can share my time and talents to help others.

Meet Brian Wrozek

I'm employed by the Michigan Air National Guard in Battle Creek, Mi., A 35 Yr veteran. I hold the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt). My position is with the 217th Air Communications Squadron(ACOMS) as an Operations Superintendent. I'm single and a member of St. Catherine's Parish, Portage, Mi. I initially found out about the program from parish Knights of Columbus Counsel. After more than a year with the program I would not change a thing.

Volunteering gives me an additional sense of purpose and community while making new friends and serving the greater good.

The challenge of stocking tables and filling boxes with nutrition for life and being on the sharing end of handing out those boxes of non perishable and fresh food gives me a sense of pride and appreciation. I try to live up to the quote by Winston Churchill ~ "You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give."
