Each year there are approximately 20,000 Hispanic/Latino migrant farmworkers that arrive in our Diocese to work from March-November or shorter periods of time from June-August. These migrants speak Spanish and typically come from Texas, Florida, Mexico and Central America. They work ~300 camps in the nine county area in the apple orchards, strawberries, cucumbers, and blueberry fields.
To serve the migrant population, we provide the following programs:
- Visits to the camps
- Mass at the camps and invitation to participate in nearby parishes
- Diocesan Fiesta
- Confirmations for Migrant youth at St. Augustine Cathedral, Kalamazoo
